14 Hands Hot to Trot 75cl
Pour this and you get a big, juicy mouthful of dark berries with a soft, velvety landing. No sharp edges, no homework required. It's the red you grab when the nyama choma is on the grill, the playlist is good, and you just want a wine that gets along with everyone at the table. Full of fruit, smooth as anything, and friendly to the wallet.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Deep ruby in the glass, and the nose leads with ripe cherry, dark berries and a little tea-leaf earthiness. First sip is all juicy fruit: blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and cherry pie, with a warm thread of cocoa and toasty oak underneath. A flick of baking spice and pepper keeps it from going sweet and flat. The tannins (that's the grippy, drying bit) are soft and velvety, the acidity is medium, so it drinks easy without falling apart. Full of flavour but never heavy-handed.

Where it's from

This comes out of Washington State's Columbia Valley, made by 14 Hands. The name is a nod to the small wild horses that once roamed the Horse Heaven Hills there, the ones that stood about fourteen hands tall (a hand being the width of a palm, old horse-measuring trick). That unbridled, fun-loving streak is kind of the whole idea behind the bottle. It's grown into one of Washington's biggest, best-loved labels for good reason: it overdelivers for the money.
