5.8 Gin & Tonic Very Berry 330ML
★★★★½ 4.5 (2 reviews)You want a gin and tonic but you do not want to find ice, slice a lime and hunt for the good tonic. This is that, sorted. Crack the can and you get a light pink pour, a gentle fizz and real berry fruit riding on top of proper juniper. It is breezy, low on booze at 5.8%, and made to be drunk cold and fast. Perfect for the balcony, a picnic at the dam, or that point in the evening when one more cocktail feels like admin.
First sniff is berries, the soft jammy kind, with a little citrus lift and that pine-y juniper edge that tells you there is actual gin in here. The sip is fruity but not sweet-shop sweet. The berries do the talking, the tonic keeps it bright and a bit bitter, and the fizz is gentle rather than fierce. It finishes clean and crisp so you reach for the next sip without thinking. Easy company, never cloying.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This is Kenyan through and through. It comes from African Originals (you will see them as Kenyan Originals), the crew behind Kenya's first locally sourced ready-to-drink gin and tonic. The berries are real blueberries grown up in Tigoni, just north west of Nairobi, and the gin's botanicals are harvested with the Maasai community. They are also the first African gin and cider company to earn B Corp status, so the feel-good is built in. Proper local, properly made.
