An Dulaman Irish Maritime Gin 500ml5391532620008-16%
Pour this and your usual gin suddenly looks a bit basic. It's juniper-bright like a proper gin should be, then it does something nobody else does: a clean lick of sea salt and a savoury, almost oyster-like depth that makes the whole drink taste alive. Build it into a G&T tonight and it's a conversation, not just a drink. If you like gin but you're bored of the same old floral stuff, this is your next bottle.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Crystal clear in the glass, and the nose is gin-shop classic up top, juniper and zesty citrus, with a salty coastal breeze underneath. The first sip leads with soft bright juniper, then the clever bit kicks in: a brisk hit of sea salt and a rich savoury umami note, like the gin remembers it was made beside the Atlantic. It rolls into something smooth and almost buttery, with a faint nutty, chestnut warmth and a gentle dry grip on the finish. Earthy, savoury, a little wild. Not sweet, not perfumey, properly different.

Where it's from

This comes from Sliabh Liag Distillers in Co. Donegal, on Ireland's wild Atlantic edge, and it was the first gin ever distilled in the county. They forage five different seaweeds along the coast (Sweet Kombu, Dulse, Pepper Dulse, Carrageen Moss and the namesake Dúlamán, an Atlantic seaweed) and run them with juniper and other botanicals through a copper pot still they've affectionately named Méabh. Each bottle is hand-filled and wax-sealed on site, and the batch number is tied to the lunar phase. The name itself comes from an old Irish folk song about seaweed gatherers. About as far from a factory gin as it gets.

Good to know

What is the price of An Dulaman Irish Maritime Gin 500ml5391532620008?

An Dulaman Irish Maritime Gin 500ml5391532620008 is KSh 4,199 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for fast delivery across Nairobi, usually within the hour, or next day countrywide.

What does An Dúlamán Irish Maritime Gin taste like?

Bright classic juniper and zesty citrus up front, then a savoury coastal twist: sea salt, umami depth and a smooth, almost oyster-like richness with a nutty, dry finish. Earthy and distinctive rather than sweet or floral.

What is the ABV?

43.2%. The distillery picked that strength as the sweet spot for showing off the gin's delicate, complex flavours.

How do I serve it?

Chilled over plenty of ice in a balloon glass with premium tonic, ideally a lemon or bitter lemon tonic. It also makes a cracking savoury Martini or a Negroni.

What food pairs with it?

It loves seafood. Oysters, prawns, smoked salmon and white fish all play beautifully off the salty, umami notes. Salty cheese works too.

Where is it from?

Co. Donegal, Ireland, made by Sliabh Liag Distillers less than a mile from the Atlantic. It was the first gin distilled in the county.

What makes it a maritime gin?

It's distilled with five locally foraged Atlantic seaweeds alongside juniper and other botanicals, which is where that briny, savoury, sea-air character comes from.
