Pour this cold and your glass smells like a fruit stall in full sun. Apricot, peach, a soft drizzle of honey and a whole bunch of flowers. It's sweet and unapologetic about it, the kind of white you sip slow while dessert is still on the table or the playlist is just getting good. Low on booze at 11%, big on flavour. Honestly the perfect bottle for when someone says 'I don't really like wine'. They like this one.
It's pale yellow and the nose does all the talking first. Ripe apricot and peach, a handful of white flowers, that little hum of honey in the background. On the tongue it's properly sweet and fragrant, the fruit carrying right through, with just enough freshness underneath so it never goes sticky or flat. Easy, generous, a little bit dessert in a glass.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This is Moldova, one of the oldest wine countries on earth and one most people sleep on. It's made by Asconi, a family winery set up in 1994 out in Puhoi village, with its vines planted near Geamana about 10km away. They run modern Italian kit but keep things proper, and Muscat is one of their signature grapes. That's the magic here. Muscat is the variety that smells exactly like the grape it came from, which is why this bottle is so loud and floral in the best way.
