You know that first sip of a proper IPA, the one that hits with grapefruit and pine then leaves your mouth dry and asking for more? That's this. Bila Shaka swaggers in dark gold, 6.5%, hops turned up loud. Pour one when the nyama choma is hissing on the grill and you want a beer with actual personality, not just something cold and fizzy. It earned its name (Swahili for "no doubt") by being Kenya's craft IPA before craft IPA was a thing here.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Stick your nose in first. You get a wave of tropical fruit, grapefruit zest and fresh pine, that classic hoppy lift. The first sip is juicy with mango and citrus, a little floral, then the hops clamp down into a dry, clean bitterness that lingers just long enough to make you go back. It's bottle-conditioned and unfiltered, so it drinks full and characterful, nothing watery about it. At 35 IBU it's bitter with intent, never harsh.

Where it's from

This is proudly Kenyan, brewed by Bateleur in the Great Rift Valley and poured across Nairobi's tap rooms. Bila Shaka means "no doubt" in Swahili, and the IPA was the brew that put them on the map, one of the first craft IPAs to come out of Kenya. It's made the honest way: no preservatives, no stabilisers, no added sugar, just good ingredients and a beer that bagged a Bronze at the European Beer Challenge to prove the locals can hang with anyone.
