Canti Merlot 75cl
Excellent★★★★
Pour this and you get soft, juicy red fruit, a whisper of dark chocolate, and a finish that rounds off smooth instead of gripping your cheeks. It is the easy red for a Tuesday that turned into a thing. Order a pizza, queue up a film, or set it next to the grill at a slow nyama choma night and let it do its quiet, friendly work. At 11.5% it is gentle enough for a second glass without the next-day regret.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is ripe summer berries, red plum and a little dark cherry, with a faint cocoa-and-leather note hiding underneath. On the tongue it is medium-bodied and properly fruity, dark cherry and a touch of redcurrant rolling through, with tannins (the grippy, drying bit in red wine) kept soft and polite. It finishes rounded and mellow, no harsh edges, the kind of red that just gets on with being nice.

Where it's from

Canti is one of Italy's big, well-travelled wine names, made by Fratelli Martini, a family winery rooted in Piedmont up in the country's north-west. They're best known abroad for their sparkling, but the still wines like this Merlot are the everyday workhorses: clean, fruit-forward Italian reds built to be poured, not pondered. This one is predominantly Merlot, the famously round and approachable grape, which is exactly why it drinks so easy.
