Castillo de Liria Reserva Tempranillo - Cabernet Sauv 750ml
Pour this and you get a deep ruby glass that smells like blackberry jam, ripe plum and warm baking spice. The first sip is plush. Ripe dark fruit up front, then tannins that grip just enough to keep things interesting, all rounded off with that vanilla-and-toasted-oak smoothness from a year resting in barrel. It's a Spanish red that does the heavy lifting for you. Easy enough for a Tuesday couch night, classy enough when people are coming over and you want to look like you know wine.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

On the nose it's all dark fruit: blackberry, ripe plum, a little stewed strawberry, with cinnamon, vanilla and a whiff of toasty oak behind it. Sip it and that fruit core carries straight through, velvety and balanced, the Cabernet adding backbone and a touch of structure while the Tempranillo keeps it juicy and generous. Tannins are present but polished, never harsh, and it finishes spicy and elegant rather than heavy. Medium-bodied, properly dry, the kind of red that just makes sense with food.

Where it's from

This comes from Bodegas Vicente Gandía, the biggest winery in Spain's Valencia region. Castillo de Liria is their flagship name, and there's a fun bit of cheek behind it. Back in 1971 they were the first Valencia winery to bottle wine under its own brand, and they named it after the town of Liria, riffing on the fancy French idea of a 'château' (castle) on the label. The gamble paid off. Today Castillo de Liria ships to more than 60 countries and Vicente Gandía pours in around 90. This Reserva is their oak-aged red, twelve months in American barrels before it ever reaches your glass.
