This is the rice that makes your kitchen smell like a celebration before the food even hits the plate. CIL Pure Mwea Pishori is fragrant long-grain rice from the Mwea fields in Kirinyaga, the stuff that turns a regular Tuesday dinner into something people ask seconds for. Slender grains, that unmistakable natural aroma, and a soft fluffy bite once it's cooked. If pilau or biryani is on the cards, this is the 1kg pack you want in the cupboard.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Open the pack and you already catch it: that warm, slightly nutty, faintly sweet fragrance Mwea pishori is famous for. The grains are long and slim and stay separate when you cook them right, so you get fluffy, distinct rice rather than a sticky clump. The aroma actually blooms as it steams, which is exactly why it carries a pilau so well. It's 100% pure rice, no additives and no fake fragrance doing the work. The smell is all the grain.

Where it's from

Pishori is Kenya's pride rice, grown in the Mwea Irrigation Scheme in Kirinyaga, where volcanic soils and steady irrigation give it that signature aroma. Fun bit: the name traces back to Peshawar in Pakistan, where the ancestor strains came from, but decades in Mwea gave it a flavour all its own. CIL is the rice brand from Capwell Industries, who clean and polish it without blending in lesser grain, so what you get is the real Mwea thing.
