Clase Azul Reposado Tequila 700ml
You know the bottle. That hand-painted blue-and-white ceramic decanter that makes everyone at the table go ohh . Good news: what's inside lives up to the looks. This is a tequila you sip slow, no salt, no lime, just you and a glass. Think warm vanilla, toasted nuts and sweet cooked agave, smooth as anything. Crack it open for the milestone nights, the long Nairobi catch-ups, the moment you actually want to slow down and taste your drink.
First whiff is pure dessert: cooked agave and agave nectar, vanilla, a little candied orange peel and toasted oak, with a soft nutty hazelnut thing going on. On the tongue it's medium-to-full and properly silky, more rounded than sharp. You get that sweet roasted agave up front, then toasted hazelnut, a whisper of bittersweet chocolate, and a gentle warm spice of cinnamon and clove on the finish. Smooth enough that it almost drinks like a fine aged rum. Barely any burn.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Clase Azul comes out of Jes ús María in the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, the brand Arturo Lomelí started back in 2000. The agave is 100% Blue Weber from the highlands, slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens to coax out that sweetness, then rested eight months in American whiskey casks. And that famous decanter? Each one is hand-crafted and hand-painted by Mexican artisans, so no two are exactly alike. Keep yours after, people use them as vases.
