Courvoisier VSOP 700ml
Pour this and the room slows down a notch. Courvoisier VSOP is that warm, golden sipper for when the day's done and you want something that tastes expensive without trying hard. Ripe peach, a swirl of vanilla, toasted almond, all wrapped in soft oak. Smooth enough to drink neat, classy enough to make a cocktail feel like an occasion. Late night, good company, no rush. This is the bottle for it.
First whiff is all stone fruit. Ripe peach and apricot, a little golden raisin, then vanilla and toasted nuts drifting up behind it. The sip is velvety and rounded, never sharp. You get caramelised fruit and soft honey, a gentle hum of cinnamon and clove spice, and that warm toasted-almond thing that makes cognac so easy to love. The oak sits in the background keeping it all polished. Finish is long and warm with a faint touch of tobacco. Smooth from the first drop to the last.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Courvoisier comes from Jarnac, a little town on the Charente river just east of Cognac in France. It starts as Ugni Blanc grapes, distilled twice in copper pot stills into a clear spirit called eau-de-vie, then aged for years in French oak barrels until it turns amber. The VSOP blend pulls from the prized growing areas around Cognac, the Grande and Petite Champagne crus for elegance and the Fins Bois and Borderies for that fruity, floral lift. Fun aside: Courvoisier was once the unofficial pour of Napoleon's court, which is why you'll spot the silhouette on the bottle.
