Dirty Hairy Copper Ale 330ml
Pour this and you get that gorgeous deep copper glow, then a first sip that goes biscuit, then caramel, then a clean little hop snap that tells you it's not messing about. It's an amber ale with actual swagger. Medium body, just enough bitterness to keep things interesting, the kind of beer you want in your hand at a Friday nyama choma session when one round is clearly not the plan. Cold one needed at midnight? We've got you, whatever the hour.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Crack it and you'll catch toasted bread and caramel up front, with a soft fruity, floral lift from the hops sitting just behind. On the palate it's malty and smooth with that warm amber sweetness, then a gentle resinous bitterness rolls in to dry the finish so it never turns sticky or cloying. It's unfiltered and bottle-conditioned, so the flavour is full and a touch rustic, with real depth for a 5% beer. Three hops do the heavy lifting here: magnum for backbone, cascade and chinook for that bright, grapefruity edge.

Where it's from

Bila Shaka means "without doubt" in Swahili, and the brewery earns the name. It's Kenya's best-known craft outfit, started by Rajiv Shah (it was called Bateleur before) and now sitting on a nature reserve in the Kedong Valley just outside Nairobi. They brew with natural spring water sourced right at the door, run biofuel boilers, and feed the spent grain to rescued donkeys. Same crew that launched Kenya's first IPA back in 2017. Dirty Hairy is their amber ale, and yes, the name is a wink at a certain squinting movie cop.
