You know that white wine that just gets out of its own way? This is it. Pour it cold, take a sip, and you get guava and a squeeze of citrus, dry and clean, nothing heavy hanging around. It's the bottle you grab when the plan is good company and not much fuss. Friday after work, a chilled evening on the balcony, fish off the grill. We'll have it at your door fast, any hour.
First thing you catch is the smell: ripe guava and fresh citrus, a perfumed lift that makes you want to dive in. On the tongue it's soft tropical fruit, more guava, a little orchard freshness, then it finishes dry and tidy with a zippy edge that keeps it bright. No sweetness lingering, no oaky weight. Light on its feet and genuinely thirst-quenching, the kind of glass that disappears before you notice.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Drostdy-Hof comes out of Tulbagh in South Africa's Western Cape, a wine town tucked under the Winterhoek Mountains. The name is a nice bit of history: the old drostdy was the magistrate's house and courthouse built back in 1806, and the brand still calls it home. The grapes for this blend are pulled from vineyards across Porterville, Robertson, Stellenbosch and Paarl, different soils and slopes blended to keep it easy to drink but never flat.
