-27%Pour this cold and the first sip tastes like biting into a ripe peach. Drostdy-Hof Sweet White is the bottle for when you want something sweet and forgiving, no homework required. It's light, it's fruity, and the sweetness never goes sticky because there's a little zip of acidity keeping it bright. Perfect for a chilled evening on the balcony or that friend who swears they 'don't really like wine' yet.
Big, friendly nose of peach, apricot and tropical fruit, the kind of smell that makes you want a sip before you've even poured properly. On the palate it's soft and sweet up front, light on its feet, with a clean little tang of acidity on the finish so it never feels heavy or cloying. The Chenin Blanc brings the orchard fruit, the Colombard lends the freshness, and a cool ferment in steel tanks locks all that fruitiness in. Easy company, start to finish.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Drostdy-Hof takes its name from De Oude Drostdy, the old magistrate's house in Tulbagh, a pretty wine town tucked under the Winterhoek mountains about 125km from Cape Town. The grand building dates back to 1804; the wine range itself got going in 1964 and is now made by Distell, one of South Africa's biggest drinks houses. So you're drinking a proper Cape white with a bit of history behind the label.
