Pour this into a G&T and the first thing that hits you is grapefruit. Big, juicy, slightly bitter, the kind that makes you sit up. Then the green tea sneaks in underneath and gives it this earthy, almost calming depth you don't usually get from a gin. It's bright and a little exotic without being weird. Honestly the perfect thing to crack open when the day's done and you want your drink to feel like a treat.
Nose first: zesty citrus and a whiff of tropical fruit, fragrant and inviting. On the sip, grapefruit leads the charge with a bright, herbaceous juniper right behind it. Mid-palate the gunpowder green tea shows up, earthy and a touch jasmine-like, which is the bit that makes people go "what IS that?". The finish turns gently sweet and spiced, soft anise and cardamom, with meadowsweet lending a honeyed, almost vanilla roundness. Clean, crisp, never harsh.

Where it's from
This comes from The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, a small village in County Leitrim, western Ireland. Founder PJ Rigney set it up in 2014, the first distillery in the area in over 100 years. The cool part is the botanical hunt: he travelled the world collecting the 12 botanicals, gunpowder tea and star anise from China, grapefruit and lime from Cambodia and Indonesia, cardamom from India, orris root from Morocco, and meadowsweet picked right there in Drumshanbo. It's all slow-distilled by hand in copper pot stills, eight botanicals in the pot and four vapour-infused up top.
