Fantinel is a family estate up in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the cool green corner of north-east Italy that quietly makes some of the country's best whites and bubbles. It started in 1969 when Mario Fantinel, a hotelier and restaurateur, bought his first vineyards in the Collio hills, and three generations on the family is still running the show. This one is mostly Pinot Nero with a splash of Chardonnay, made by the Charmat method with a long 150-day rest in steel tanks, which is what gives it those fine bubbles and the gentle bready note.
