Favourite Son Shiraz 75cl
Pour this and the room gets a little warmer. Favourite Son is a deep, ruby-dark Shiraz that hits with blackberry and plum, a curl of black pepper, then goes all velvet on the way down. Big, ripe, generous, the kind of red you want next to charcoal and good company. Grilling something tonight? This is the bottle.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is loaded: ripe blackberry and dark plum, then a little crack of black pepper and a whisper of spice and oak underneath. On the palate it's plush and smooth, full of dark fruit with a warm 14.5% that fills you up without burning. It finishes long and lingering, dry the whole way, no sweetness sneaking in. Easy to fall for, hard to put down.

Where it's from

This comes from Parker Coonawarra Estate, down in Coonawarra in South Australia. The whole region is famous for one weird, brilliant thing: a thin strip of bright red soil called terra rossa sitting over limestone. It's some of the most prized dirt in Australia, and it gives the reds here their depth and structure. Parker has been working it since the mid-1980s, with the Hesketh family running things since 2013. Favourite Son is their plush, easygoing take on the local Shiraz.
