Pour a glass and you get deep ruby, ripe red fruit, and a finish that just keeps going. This is the bottle you grab when you want a proper red without overthinking it. Merlot leads, so it's rounded and soft rather than sharp and grippy. Friday nyama choma, a slow Sunday, or a catch-up over a board of cheese. It fits all of them, and we'll have it at your door fast.
Nose first: ripe blackcurrant and plum with a little spice hiding in the back. On the palate it's well balanced and generous, that dark fruit carrying through, tannins soft enough that they never dry your mouth out. At 14.5% it's got real weight, but it stays smooth, finishing long and easy. Dry, but rounded. The kind of red that makes the second glass feel inevitable.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Château du Cros, a property perched on the heights of Loupiac with a view straight across the Garonne valley, about 40km south of Bordeaux. The Boyer family has run it for four generations, since 1921. The estate itself is genuinely old: the fief was handed to a knight by Richard the Lionheart back in 1196, and there's still a medieval château at the heart of the vineyard. So while the bottle is easy-going, the address has some serious history behind it.
