Frontera Merlot 1.5L
Excellent★★★★
Pour this and you get exactly what a weeknight red should be: soft, juicy plum and dark cherry, a little hum of chocolate, nothing sharp or angry about it. It's the bottle you open without overthinking, the one that just gets on with making nyama choma taste better. And because it's a 1.5L magnum, one bottle covers the whole table without anyone eyeing the last glass. Crowd-pleaser energy, zero fuss.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Stick your nose in and it's plum first, then a soft lift of pepper and a little vanilla-and-chocolate warmth. The sip follows through: ripe dark fruit, cherry, a touch of cacao, and that smooth, rounded feel that makes it so drinkable. There's just enough grip from the tannins to give it backbone, so it doesn't fall flat against food. Bone dry, but it drinks generous and fruity, never thin.

Where it's from

Frontera comes from Concha y Toro, Chile's biggest and most famous winery, the same house behind the well-known Casillero del Diablo. It's grown across vineyards in Chile's Central Valley, the warm, sunny stretch that lets the fruit ripen slow and round. After fermenting, the wine rests a few months in stainless steel rather than oak, which is exactly why it tastes so clean and fruit-forward. Concha y Toro has been doing this since 1883, so they've had plenty of practice.
