Inverroche Gin Amber 750ml-13%
Forget thin and squeaky. This is the gin you reach for when the night has slowed down, the nyama choma is off the grill, and you want something with a bit of soul in the glass. Inverroche Amber is golden, spiced and a little honeyed, more campfire-and-warm-blanket than crisp-and-clean. One sip and you get why South Africa keeps quietly winning at gin. Pour it long with tonic and it's a proper after-dark drink.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First whiff is honey and warm spice, like cinnamon and cardamom drifting past, with a squeeze of orange behind it. The juniper is there but it hangs back and lets the herbal, almost wild green notes do the talking. On the tongue it's full and rounded, dried-fruit sweetness up front, then this earthy, slightly woody depth that's all those coastal fynbos botanicals doing their thing. It finishes dry and warming, the kind of sip that lingers and makes you go back for another.

Where it's from

This is the work of Inverroche, the crew widely credited with kicking off South African craft gin. It started with Lorna Scott messing about with a tiny copper still in Still Bay, a coastal town in the Western Cape where the river meets the Indian Ocean. Her big idea was fynbos, the wild shrubland flora that only grows in the Cape Floral Kingdom, thousands of species of it. Amber is the rich one of the family: those botanicals are infused and the spirit picks up its golden colour and woody warmth from a gentle rest in oak. Small batches, hand-filled, each bottle numbered by hand.
