Very good★★★½
Pour it ice-cold into a little shot glass and it goes down clean and quiet, barely-there sweetness, no burn shouting at you. This is the green bottle you've seen in every K-drama, and at a gentle 13% it's made for sipping your way through a long table of food and louder conversation. Grab it when nyama choma turns into a proper session and you want something smooth that keeps the night going instead of ending it early.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Crack it cold and there's almost nothing harsh on the nose, just a soft grainy sweetness and a faint floral lift. The sip is silky and light, a whisper of rice sweetness and pear up front before it turns clean and a little mineral. Then it's gone, short and dry with no nasty aftertaste, which is exactly the point. Four passes through bamboo charcoal strip out the rough edges, so it drinks far smoother than 13% has any right to.

Where it's from

This is the work of HiteJinro, the South Korean giant that's been making soju since 1924 and now sells more bottles of it than any other spirit brand on earth. Chamisul means 'real dew', and the Fresh expression is the lighter, cleaner sibling in the range, filtered four times through charcoal made from bamboo grown in a protected clean zone near Korea's Mt. Jiri. Soju is Korea's national drink, the thing that gets shared around the table, and this green bottle is the one most Koreans actually reach for.

Good to know

What is the price of Jinro Chamisul Soju (Fresh) 360ml 13%?

Jinro Chamisul Soju (Fresh) 360ml 13% is KSh 480 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for delivery in 30 minutes for most areas in Nairobi, or next day countrywide.

What does Jinro Chamisul Soju (Fresh) 360ml 13% taste like?

Clean, light and smooth with a soft grainy sweetness and a hint of pear, finishing crisp and dry with no harsh burn. The bamboo-charcoal filtering makes it go down easy.

What is the ABV?

13%, which makes this Fresh version lighter than the classic Chamisul. Easy to sip through a long meal.

How do I serve it?

Ice cold. Chill the bottle hard, then drink it neat in small shot glasses or mix it with beer (somaek), soda, or fruit. Pour for your friends, not yourself, Korean style.

What pairs with it?

Anything grilled, salty or spicy. Think nyama choma, Korean fried chicken, pork belly, or sweet-and-spicy street food.

Where is it from?

South Korea, made by HiteJinro, the world's best-selling soju producer, brewing since 1924.

Is soju like vodka?

Lighter and a touch sweeter. Soju is lower in alcohol and softer on the palate, so it's easier to sip and great in mixers.
