Johnnie Walker Black Label 750ml
Exceptional★★★★★
This is the bottle you pour when you want everyone to relax. A whisper of smoke, a curl of honey and toffee, and a finish smooth enough to sip slow on a Friday night. It's the safe-bet Scotch that's actually a genuinely great one. Neat, on a rock, or as the backbone of a knockout whisky sour, it just works. Late-night craving? We'll have it at your door before the ice melts.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff and you get gentle wood smoke, then it softens into vanilla, butterscotch and a twist of orange peel. The sip is full and rounded: caramel and toffee up front, dried fruit and a little sultana-and-sherry richness in the middle, with warm spice (think clove, cinnamon, a pinch of pepper) threaded through. That famous Johnnie Walker smoke sits in the background the whole time, more campfire-on-the-breeze than ashtray, and the finish is long, a touch salty, and properly smooth. None of it shouts. It's all balance.

Where it's from

It's Scotch, blended from around 40 different single malt and grain whiskies pulled from all four corners of Scotland, every one aged at least 12 years before it goes anywhere near the bottle. The backbone comes from Diageo's key distilleries: honeyed Clynelish from the Highlands, fruity Cardhu on Speyside, and a quiet lick of smoke from Caol Ila on Islay. The recipe traces back to 1909, when Alexander Walker built on his father John's grocery-shop whiskies. Over a century later the formula's barely budged, which tells you something.
