Picture a late one on the balcony, the city humming below you, and something cold and bright in your hand. That's this. Real honey pineapples and a hit of fresh mint, naturally fermented into a cider that drinks like sunshine with a wink. It's sweet and fruity and quietly strong at 8%, so it punches above its easy-going vibe. Grab it when you want fun in a can without thinking too hard.
First thing you get is that big honeyed pineapple, ripe and almost juicy enough to chew. Underneath there's a soft apple sweetness from the fermented cider base, a little melon roundness, then the mint sweeps through at the end and keeps the whole thing lively instead of cloying. It's gently fizzy, more soft sparkle than aggressive bubbles, and it leans sweet without tipping into syrupy. Basically tropical fruit and garden mint having a good time together.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This is Kenyan Originals, a Nairobi craft outfit started in 2018 by Alexandra Chappatte with a simple stubborn idea: don't copy a drink from abroad, make something genuinely Kenyan. The inspiration was muratina, the traditional fermented brew, reimagined for now. Everything happens in-house in Nairobi, from chopping fruit to canning. The pineapples here come from Kisii in the west, juiced on site, with the mint and lime muddled in. No additives, no preservatives, just real fruit fermented properly.
