KO Tonic Light Can 200ML
★★★★★ 5.0 (3 reviews)Crack the can and you get that proper tonic snap. Tiny tight bubbles, a clean bitter edge, and way less sugar than the usual suspects so it never goes syrupy on you. This is the one to pour over a KO gin when you want the spirit to do the talking and the mixer to just lift it. Cold from the fridge, half over ice, half topping a measure of gin. Done. It's also lovely on its own when you're keeping it dry tonight.
Crystal clear in the glass with a fast, fine fizz that holds. The first thing you notice is how dry it is. There's a gentle citrus-pith brightness, then that signature quinine bitterness comes through clean on the finish, the bit that makes your mouth water for the next sip. Because it's sweetened with fructose (fruit sugar) instead of being loaded up, the sweetness sits in the background and lets the bitter do its job. Crisp, taut, and not at all cloying.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This is Kenyan Originals (KO), the Nairobi craft-drinks crew who kicked off in 2018 making proper Kenyan booze and mixers, including one of the first gins actually distilled in Kenya. The tonic is blended and canned on home soil using natural quinine, no artificial sweeteners, flavours or preservatives in sight. The Light version swaps in fructose so you get roughly a third of the sugar of a standard supermarket tonic, without losing the bite. Real ingredients, made here, built to sit next to their gin.
Good to know
- What is the price of KO Tonic Light Can 200ML?
KO Tonic Light Can 200ML is KSh 165 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for delivery in 30 minutes for most areas in Nairobi, or next day countrywide.
- What does Kenyan Originals Tonic Light 200ml taste like?
Crisp and dry with fine bubbles, a touch of citrus brightness and a clean quinine bitterness on the finish. It's noticeably less sweet than mainstream tonics, so it lifts a gin instead of sugaring it up.
- What is the ABV of Kenyan Originals Tonic Light?
It's a non-alcoholic mixer, so there's no alcohol in it at all. The booze comes from whatever you pour it over.
- How do I serve it?
Ice cold. Over plenty of ice with a measure of gin and a wedge of lime, or just chilled on its own. The 200ml can is a single serve, about one solid G&T.
- What pairs with Kenyan Originals Tonic Light?
KO Classic or Blush Gin is the natural match, but it's also great with a premium vodka or a light vermouth. As a non-alcoholic sip it cuts beautifully through salty snacks or nyama choma.
- How is it lower in sugar?
It's sweetened with fructose, a sugar from fruit, and uses less of it, giving you roughly a third of the sugar of a standard tonic. No artificial sweeteners or preservatives.
- Where is it from?
Made in Kenya by Kenyan Originals (KO), blended and canned locally using natural quinine. Same crew behind KO Classic Gin.
