Kumala Cape Medium Sweet Red 75cl
Pour this and you get a deep ruby red that smells like plums and fresh berries with a little sweet, dried-fruit lift. The sip is soft, smooth and gently sweet, no harsh edges, no homework required. It's the bottle you grab when you want red wine but not a big, drying, serious one. Great for a chilled night in, a catch-up with friends, or alongside the grill. We'll have it at your door fast, any hour.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

The nose leads with ripe plum and red berries, plus a sweet hint of dried fruit like raisins or dates. On the palate it's medium-bodied and rounded, with cherry and blackcurrant, a whisper of spice, and tannins so soft they barely show up (tannin is that grippy, mouth-drying feel, and here it's dialled right down). It finishes gently sweet and friendly, easy to keep sipping.

Where it's from

Kumala is one of South Africa's best-known names, born in 1995 with grapes pulled from across the Western Cape, from Stellenbosch and Paarl out to Worcester and the Olifants River. Fun bit: the name nods to Reverend Kumalo from the classic novel Cry, the Beloved Country. Today it's made under the Accolade Wines umbrella, and this Cape Medium Sweet Red is the crowd-pleaser of the range.
