Pour this and you get a deep purple-ruby glass that smells like ripe blue and dark fruit with a little garden-herb lift. It drinks medium-bodied and smooth, dark berries and sweet baking spice rolling into a finish that actually lingers. Nothing heavy, nothing fussy. It's an organic Bordeaux that's happy on a Tuesday with dinner or on the table next to a late plate of nyama choma. Grab it when you want a proper red that doesn't ask much of you.
The nose leads with ripe blue and purple fruit, blackberry and plum, with dried herbs sitting underneath, think sage and rosemary brushed through it. On the palate it's medium-bodied with ripe dark fruit, a warm note of sweet baking spice, and acidity that keeps everything fresh and food-friendly. Tannins are smooth, not grippy, so it goes down easy. The Malbec brings the dark juicy weight, the Cabernet Franc adds that herby, slightly peppery edge. Dry the whole way through, with a finish that sticks around.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Château Beynat, a hillside estate in Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux corner right next to Saint-Émilion. Alain Tourenne took it over and went organic straight away, certified back in 2011, then deeper into biodynamics (Demeter) from 2019. Everything's worked by hand, no herbicides, grapes triple-sorted and fermented on wild yeast in cement tanks. So when we say organic, it's the real deal, not a sticker.
