Leleshwa Sauv Blanc 75cl
Pour this cold and you get a hit of lime, green fig and that fresh-cut-grass snap that good Sauvignon Blanc does so well. It's bone dry, zippy and clean, the kind of glass that wakes your mouth up before dinner and refuses to get heavy. And here's the kicker: it's actually Kenyan, grown up in Naivasha, not flown in from somewhere far. Get it properly chilled and it's a tough white to put down.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Nose first: lime and grapefruit, a little green fig, that grassy, gooseberry edge classic Sauvignon Blanc is known for. On the palate it's light and lean, citrus and a flick of tropical fruit, with bright acidity keeping everything taut. Dry all the way through, no sugar hiding anywhere, finishing clean and crisp so you're ready for the next sip. Easy to read, no jargon needed: it's fresh, tangy and zingy.

Where it's from

This grows at Leleshwa's vineyard on Morendat Farm in Naivasha, right in the Great Rift Valley and basically on the equator. It started as a hobby project to prove the doubters wrong, the people who said you couldn't grow proper wine grapes here. The vines sit at around 2,000 metres up, where cool nights and 12 hours of equatorial sun let the fruit ripen slow and keep its zip. Grapes are hand-picked, usually around February, then fermented and bottled on the farm. A genuinely local Kenyan wine, and a good one.
