Leopards Leap Chardonnay Pinot Noir 750ML
Exceptional★★★★★
Pour this and the glass goes a pretty pale pink, then the first sip wakes you up. Tangy grapefruit, a hit of cranberry and pomegranate, and acidity that keeps everything bright and moreish. It's a rosé that actually tastes of something, not just sweet pink water. Sundowner on the balcony, a long Friday catch-up, or whatever excuse you've got tonight. We'll bring it cold, fast, any hour.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Stick your nose in and you get fresh red fruit, a squeeze of grapefruit, a little tropical lift and that distinctive pomegranate note. The sip follows through: zippy citrus grapefruit up front, tart cranberry and pomegranate underneath, and a clean, juicy finish. There's the faintest whisper of sugar (around 5 grams, so basically dry) that rounds off the edges without making it sweet. The Pinot Noir lends the colour and red-berry charm, the Chardonnay brings the citrus snap. Light on its feet and seriously easy to keep sipping.

Where it's from

This comes from Leopard's Leap, a family winery tucked into the gorgeous Franschhoek Valley in South Africa's Cape Winelands. It was started in the early 2000s by winemaker Hein Koegelenberg, with input from his father-in-law, the legendary Anton Rupert. Here's the cool bit: the name isn't just branding. The estate backs conservation of the threatened Cape Mountain Leopard, so there's an actual cat behind the label. They make wine to be enjoyed at the table, not over-analysed, which is exactly our energy.

Good to know

Leopards Leap Chardonnay Pinot Noir 750ML is KSh 1,789 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for fast delivery across Nairobi, usually within the hour, or next day countrywide.

What does Leopard's Leap Chardonnay Pinot Noir 750ml taste like?

Bright and fresh with grapefruit, cranberry and pomegranate. Lively acidity, a clean juicy finish, and only the faintest touch of sweetness, so it drinks essentially dry.

What is the ABV of Leopard's Leap Chardonnay Pinot Noir?

It's 12.5% ABV, which is comfortably moderate for a wine you'll happily share over a long evening.

Is it sweet or dry?

It leans dry. There's a tiny bit of residual sugar (around 5 grams per litre) that softens it, but the grapefruit and cranberry acidity keeps it crisp rather than sweet.

How should I serve it?

Chilled, 8 to 10°C, in a white-wine glass. Drink it on its own as an aperitif or alongside food. No need for ice in the glass, just get the bottle properly cold.

It's a versatile mate to seafood, sushi, duck, Mediterranean mezze and soft cheeses. Light chicken or fish nyama choma works a treat too.

Where is it from?

From Leopard's Leap in the Franschhoek Valley, South Africa, a family winery linked to Cape Leopard conservation.
