Pitars Extra Dry Prosecco 75cl-4%
Some nights don't need a reason, they just need bubbles. Pour this and you get fine, persistent fizz, green apple and pear, a little citrus snap and a flower-shop softness on top. It's Extra Dry, which despite the name means a touch rounder and a kiss sweeter than Brut, so it goes down friendly without ever turning sticky. Birthday, payday, Tuesday. Tell us where you are, we'll have it at your door cold.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is fresh-cut green apple and lemon, with acacia and a wisteria-ish floral note drifting over the top. Sip it and the bubbles are fine and lively, not aggressive, carrying juicy pear and a squeeze of grapefruit. There's a gentle softness through the middle (that's the Extra Dry talking) before a clean, bright finish tidies everything up. Light on its feet and very, very moreish.

Where it's from

This comes from Pitars, run by the Pittaro family in San Martino al Tagliamento, out in the Grave del Friuli in north-east Italy. They've farmed wine here for generations, with vineyards spread along the gravelly beds of the Tagliamento river, and they built their modern Cantina San Martino back in the 1960s to focus on bright, fresh whites. The grape is Glera, the classic Prosecco variety, made sparkling in big steel tanks (the Charmat method) so the wine keeps all that fresh fruit and floral character instead of going toasty. Friuli in a glass.

Fresh and fruity. Think green apple, pear and citrus with a floral lift, fine bubbles and a soft, slightly off-dry middle before a clean finish.

What is the ABV of Pitars Extra Dry Prosecco?

It's 11.5% ABV, which is typical for Prosecco and on the lighter side for a wine.

Only a little. Confusingly, Extra Dry is actually a touch sweeter than Brut, so it reads as just off-dry: rounder and friendlier, but still crisp, not a dessert wine.

How do I serve it?

Cold, around 6 to 8°C, in a tulip or white wine glass. Great solo as a welcome drink or in a Spritz or Mimosa.
