Think of this as the red that doesn't ask you to sit up straight. It's light, bright and bursting with sour cherry, the kind of bottle you can pop on a Tuesday or pass around the table without anyone getting precious about it. Give it a slight chill and it goes from "nice red" to "oh, that's the one." Order a pizza, queue up something good, and let Signore Giuseppe do its thing.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is all marasca cherry, that tart, just-ripe red cherry, with a little black pepper twist and a whiff of soft red berries behind it. The sip is delicate and lively rather than big and brooding. You get tart plum, juicy acidity that keeps your mouth watering, and tannins so gentle they barely register. It's dry, fresh, and finishes clean with decent length, so it never feels thin. Easy company, but it's actually got something to say.

Where it's from

It comes from Bardolino, a little town on the eastern shore of Lake Garda up in Italy's Veneto. The lake is the secret here: breezes off the water and cool mountain air keep the grapes fresh while sunlight bouncing off the lake ripens them just right. It's made from Corvina and Rondinella, the same local grapes behind nearby Valpolicella, fermented at a controlled cool temperature to lock in that perfumed, just-picked character. Bardolino has carried its DOC stamp of origin since 1968, so this style is the real, protected deal.
