Pink, fizzy, and just sweet enough to make you grin on the first sip. This is the bottle for when you don't need an occasion. Wild strawberries, ripe cherry and a little floral lift, all riding fine, persistent bubbles that tickle rather than bite. Pour it at a birthday, a Friday that earned it, or a quiet night when something pretty in a glass just feels right. We'll get it to you cold and quick, whatever the hour.
Think a basket of summer fruit turned into a glass. You'll smell wild strawberries and candied raspberry first, then a wisp of tropical and stone fruit underneath. On the palate it's lusciously fruity: red apple, plum and cherry, with a gentle honeyed sweetness that's balanced by enough zip to keep it from cloying. The bubbles are delicate and the finish is soft and clean, not sticky. Demi-sec means properly off-dry, so expect a sweet wine that still feels lively, not syrupy.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Simonsig in Stellenbosch, the family who basically kicked off South African bottle-fermented bubbly. Back in 1971 the Malans released Kaapse Vonkel, the country's first Cap Classique, and the estate has been a benchmark for sparkling ever since. Satin Nectar is their softly sweet rosé spin on that legacy, a blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinotage, bottle fermented and rested on the lees for 15 months before it's finished off-dry. It joined the Kaapse Vonkel range in 2019, so it's the playful younger sibling in a very serious bubbly family.
