Here's a fun one. Sudocrem was cooked up back in 1931 by a Dublin pharmacist named Thomas Smith. He called it Soothing Cream, but said fast in a thick Dublin accent that comes out sounding like "Sudocrem", and the name stuck for good in 1950.
