Tanqueray Malacca 1L
Forget everything you think you know about Tanqueray's sharp green bottle. Malacca is the soft, flirty cousin. Rounder, warmer, with a sweet hit of grapefruit and rose that makes a G&T taste almost like a cocktail you'd pay 800 bob for at a rooftop bar. If classic London Dry feels too pine-forest serious some nights, this is the one you reach for when you want your gin to actually charm you. Pour it tonight and thank yourself.
First sniff and it's all fruit. Grapefruit and lime up front, a little tropical sweetness behind it, then a whisper of rose petal that softens the whole thing. Sip it and the juniper is there but it's relaxed, not shouting. You get warm spice underneath, black peppercorn for a gentle earthy kick and a touch of clove and nutmeg, finishing sweeter and creamier than you'd expect from a gin. Smooth, generous, a little exotic. Easy to fall for.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Here's the cool bit. Malacca isn't a new recipe, it's a resurrected one. The blend is drawn from Charles Tanqueray's own archives, a softer, sweeter style of gin from the early 1800s back when London gin wasn't all bone-dry. Tanqueray first revived it in the late 90s, then pulled it, and bartenders missed it so much that it came roaring back as a limited release. Still made in England by the same house behind that famous green bottle, just with the volume turned down and the charm turned up.
