Big gold can, no fuss. Tusker is the lager you reach for when the grill is on, the music's up, and you just want a cold one that goes down smooth. Light, golden, lightly bitter, easy company for hours. The 500ml can chills fast and travels anywhere. Say the word and we'll have it at your door, late night included.
Pour it and you get a clean pale-gold beer with a quick white head. The smell is gentle: a little fresh bread from the malt, a soft floral-spicy lift from the hops. First sip is light and smooth, a crackery, biscuity malt up front, then a clean hop bitterness that tidies everything up and leaves you ready for the next one. Carbonation is moderate, never sharp. It finishes dry and crisp, nothing heavy hanging around. An honest lager that knows exactly what it is.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This is Kenya in a can. Tusker is brewed by East African Breweries in Nairobi, first poured back in 1922, and it's made from properly local stuff: barley grown around the Savannah and the Maasai Mara, water off the Aberdare Mountains, and yeast cultured right here. The name has a story. Co-founder George Hurst was killed in an elephant hunting accident, and the beer was named Tusker in his memory, after the big bull elephants. That's why there's an elephant on every can.
