Tusker Malt Can 500ml
β β β β Β½ 4.7 (7 reviews)You know that pour that just feels a little more grown-up? This is it. Tusker Malt is the smoother, rounder cousin of the green-bottle classic. 100% malted barley, no shortcuts, matured for twice as long, so every sip leans rich and bready instead of thin. Crack the 500ml can after a long day, over the grill at a nyama choma, or deep into a Nairobi night when you want something that drinks like a treat. We'll have it cold at your door before the coals are ready.
Pop it and you get a soft waft of hops and warm grain, like fresh bread crust. The first sip is where it earns the "Malt" name: a properly malty, biscuity body with a gentle honeyed sweetness that the standard Tusker doesn't have. It's smooth and full without being heavy, the carbonation is easy and rolling, and the bitterness sits politely in the background just to keep it clean. Finishes smooth and satisfying, no harsh edge. A real lager you can actually sit with.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it comes from
This is as Kenyan as it gets. Tusker is brewed by Kenya Breweries in Nairobi, born back in 1922 when two Welsh brothers, George and Charles Hurst, set up shop. The name carries a real story: George died in an elephant hunting accident, and Charles named their first beer Tusker in his memory, after the great big-tusked bulls of East Africa. That elephant on the can isn't decoration, it's a tribute. Tusker Malt itself arrived in 1996 as Kenya's first premium lager, the more refined member of the family.
