Nabygelegen Upper Valley Dry White 1.5L
Picture a magnum of cold, zesty white landing on the table and not having to get up for a second bottle. That's this. It's a South African dry white that tastes like biting into a green apple next to a wedge of lime: fresh, clean, no sugar hanging around. Pour it properly chilled and it carries a long evening, from the first pour to the late nyama choma run.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First whiff is bright and green: lime zest, grapefruit, a little crunch of granny-smith apple. On the tongue it's light and lively, citrus up front, a squeeze of acidity that keeps your mouth watering, then a properly dry finish that wipes the slate clean for the next sip. No sweetness, no heavy oak, nothing fussy. Just a clean, thirst-quenching white that knows what it's for.

Where it's from

It comes from Nabygelegen, a private cellar tucked into the Bovlei, the Upper Valley, just outside Wellington in South Africa's Western Cape, sheltered under the Limietberg mountains. The land grant goes all the way back to 1712, and the name itself is old Cape Dutch for "lying nearby," a nod to how close the first settlers built. Their white grapes grow on cooler, south-facing slopes in decomposed-granite soil, which is exactly the kind of spot that keeps a wine this fresh and zippy.
