Pour this and you get a glass of deep amber that smells like Christmas cake and tastes even better. It's lusciously sweet without being sticky, all raisins and honey and toasted nuts, with a finish that hangs around long after the last sip. This is your after-dinner reward, the thing you slow right down for. Tiny glass, big chair, no rush.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First thing that hits you is the colour, properly deep amber like dark honey. The nose is raisins, dried fig, toffee and a little aniseed, the kind of warm baked-fruit smell that makes you lean in. On the palate it's seriously sweet (around 112 g of sugar per litre, so think dessert, not table wine) but never gloopy, because there's a bright thread of acidity keeping it lively. Underneath the honey you get dried dates, toasted almonds, a nutty oxidative depth from all those years in old oak, and a long, lingering finish. Sip slowly. It rewards it.

Where it's from

De Muller has been making wine in Tarragona, in Spain's Catalonia, since 1851, and they built their name on one very specific thing: altar wine. Back in 1883 they earned an Ecclesiastical Certificate, and they've been an official supplier of communion wine, reportedly even to the Vatican, ever since. This bottle comes from that exact tradition. Late-harvested white Garnacha and Macabeo, fermented sweet, then rested in ancient oak soleras where slow contact with air builds all that nutty, raisiny complexity. A wine with a genuinely old soul.

Quick questions

What is the price of Vino De Misa Dulce Superior 75cl?

Vino De Misa Dulce Superior 75cl is KSh 1,919 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for delivery in 30 minutes for most areas in Nairobi, or next day countrywide.

What does De Muller Vino de Misa Dulce Superior 75cl taste like?

Richly sweet and amber-coloured, with raisins, dried fig, honey, toffee and toasted nuts, plus a nutty oxidative depth and a long finish. Sweet but balanced by fresh acidity, so it's never cloying.

What is the ABV?

It's 15% alcohol by volume, so a touch stronger than a standard table wine, which fits its rich dessert-wine style.

How do I serve it?

Lightly chilled, around 10 to 13 degrees, in a small glass and sipped neat. No ice, no mixers. It's an after-dinner sipping wine.

What pairs with it?

Dessert territory: dark chocolate, aged or blue cheese, nuts, dried fruit and rich cakes. The sweetness loves a salty or sharp partner.

Where is it from?

Spain, made by De Muller in Tarragona, Catalonia. They've been producing wine since 1851 and are famous for their sacramental altar wine.

Is it a sweet wine?

Yes, properly sweet. It's a naturally sweet, solera-aged wine made from late-harvested Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo, so it sits firmly in dessert-wine country.

How long does it keep once opened?

A good few weeks in the fridge. The high sugar and oxidative style make it far more forgiving than a dry wine, so you can enjoy it over time.
