Whitley Neill Handcrafted Dry Gin 1L
Pour this one and your next G&T stops being background noise. Whitley Neill leads with proper juniper and a big hit of sunny citrus, then sneaks in something you won't quite place: tart African baobab fruit and Cape gooseberry, riding under the classic botanicals. It's softer and smoother than your average dry gin, so it goes down clean. Late night, friends over, a slow Friday on the balcony. Crack it open.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Nose first: piney juniper, fresh orange and lemon, and a little floral lift, like someone left the windows open near a fruit market. On the tongue it's juniper-forward but never harsh, with bright citrus zest and a smooth, almost exotic-fruit sweetness from the baobab and physalis. That's the trick here. The finish is long, clean and crisp, no rough edges. Crystal clear in the glass, easy to keep coming back to.

Where it's from

This is the work of Johnny Neill, an eighth-generation distiller whose family has been at it since the 1700s. After a stint in finance he went back to his roots and launched the brand in 2005, building a recipe around nine botanicals including two inspired by Africa: baobab and Cape gooseberry. It's small-batch distilled in England in a century-old copper pot still, which is a big part of why it lands so smooth. England, 43% ABV, full 1-litre bottle.
