Yarden Pinot Gris 750ml. 2021
Want a white that actually wakes your mouth up. This is the one. Pour it cold and you get juicy pear, ripe apricot and a squeeze of lime, then a clean, mineral snap that keeps everything fresh. It's dry, never sweet, with enough body to feel like a proper glass and enough zip to keep you going back. Friday night, a plate of grilled fish, this chilled and sweating in the glass. Sorted.
Stick your nose in and it's pear and green apple first, then apricot, peach and a little tropical lift, with a soft floral edge and a whiff of mineral and gentle spice. The palate is medium-bodied and rounded (about half the wine is fermented in big oval oak casks, which gives it that bit of weight) but it never goes soft. Lime and red grapefruit keep it bright and the acidity is genuinely zingy, so it finishes clean and makes you want another sip. Smart, fresh, easy to love.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Golan Heights Winery, and Yarden is their top label. The grapes grow high up in the northern Golan Heights in Israel, in vineyards sat on volcanic basalt soil. That altitude means cool nights, which is exactly why the wine holds onto its fresh, lively acidity instead of going flat and fruity. The whole place changed Israeli wine when it launched, putting cool-climate, properly made bottles on the map. And yes, it's kosher.
