Zevenwacht Gewurztraminer 75cl-23%
Pour this and the whole room knows. Rose petals, litchi, a whiff of Turkish delight floating up out of the glass before you've taken a sip. It's off-dry, so there's a soft hint of sweetness, but fresh enough that it never goes sticky. Grab it for a night when dinner's got some heat in it, or just when you want a white that actually tastes of something.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

It leads with perfume. Big floral lift of rose petal and honeysuckle, then litchi and that sweet-spicy Turkish delight thing Gewürztraminer is famous for, with a little ginger warmth behind it. The palate is full and round with a gentle sweetness, but a line of fresh acidity keeps it lively instead of cloying. Soft, aromatic, a touch exotic, and it lingers.

Where it's from

Zevenwacht is a 450-hectare estate on the Stellenbosch wine route in South Africa, with views out to Table Mountain and the bay. The name is old Dutch for "seven expectations," and the land was first granted back in 1688 to a woman named Catharina Ras. The Johnson family has run it since 1992. Gewürztraminer is a pink-skinned grape that gives wines this loud, perfumed character, and it's a rare thing to find done well in South Africa.
