4th Street Sweet White 5L
You know that wine that just makes a room louder and friendlier? This is that wine, in a 5-litre box, so it never runs dry. It's sweet, soft and full of peach and tropical fruit, the kind you sip without thinking too hard. Chill it properly, prop the box on the counter, and let everyone help themselves. Whether it's a long Friday or a slow Sunday on the balcony, we'll have it at your door fast.
First whiff is all ripe peach and tropical fruit, with a little squeeze of citrus lifting it. On the tongue it's properly sweet and round, think honeyed apricot and a soft floral edge, nothing sharp or sour anywhere. It's low on the alcohol at 8%, so it goes down gentle and finishes clean, just enough fruit hanging around to make you want the next sip. No oak, no bitterness, no fuss.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
4th Street comes out of South Africa's Western Cape, made from grapes picked at peak ripeness around February and March. The clever bit is how they keep it this sweet: instead of fermenting all the sugar into alcohol like a dry wine, they hold back the fresh juice so a load of natural grape sweetness stays in the glass. It started as a fun, share-it-with-friends idea back in 2009 (born under Distell, now Heineken Beverages) and quietly grew into one of the most-poured wines on the continent, big across Kenya included.
