Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 75cl
Pour this and you get a wave of ripe blackcurrant and dark cherry, then tannins that grip just enough before going smooth on you. It's bold without being a bruiser, the kind of red that makes a Tuesday feel like an occasion. Grilling something tonight? This is your bottle. Got people over and need it fast? We move quick, any hour.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Deep ruby in the glass, and the nose is straight-up cassis: blackcurrant, dark cherry, a little dried herb, and a curl of vanilla and clove from the oak. On the palate it's juicy and medium to full bodied, with that classic Cab grip of tannin that's firm but rounded, never harsh. There's a faint graphite, almost pencil-shaving edge underneath that the altitude gives it, and the finish is long and warming. Dry the whole way through, so think savoury and structured, not sweet.

Where it's from

Alamos is the higher-altitude line from the Catena family, one of the names that put Argentine wine on the world map. The grapes come from vineyards climbing the foothills of the Andes around Mendoza, some planted as high as 1,500 metres up. That altitude is the whole trick: blazing daytime sun thickens the grape skins while cold mountain nights lock in the fruit, so you get colour, concentration and softer tannins all at once. The name itself nods to the tall poplar trees, los alamos, that line the vineyards out there.

Good to know

What is the price of Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 75cl?

Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 75cl is KSh 2,119 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for fast delivery across Nairobi, usually within the hour, or next day countrywide.

What does Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 75cl taste like?

Ripe blackcurrant and dark cherry with cassis, a touch of dried herb, and oak-driven vanilla and clove. It's dry, medium to full bodied, with firm but smooth tannins and a long, warming finish.

What is the ABV of Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon?

It's 13.5% ABV, pretty standard for an Argentine red and easy to enjoy over a meal.

Is it sweet or dry?

Fully dry. The fruit is ripe and generous, but there's no sweetness, just structure, savoury depth and grippy tannins.

How should I serve it?

Lightly cool at 16 to 18C in a big glass. Let it breathe ten minutes and the tannins soften and the fruit blooms. Decant if you like, but no need.

What pairs with Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon?

Anything off the grill. Nyama choma, beef burgers, roast lamb, slow beef stews, or hard aged cheeses. It loves char and protein.

Where is it from?

Mendoza, Argentina, from the Catena family's high-altitude vineyards in the Andes foothills. The Alamos line is built around that mountain-grown fruit.
