You already know this bottle. The mirror-gold one that turns heads the second it lands on the table. But forget the flex for a sec, because what's inside actually backs up the looks. It's rich, creamy Champagne with ripe peach and honey and a long, fresh finish that keeps you coming back. This is the pour for the night that matters: the big birthday, the deal closed, the moment you want photographed. Tell us the address, we'll get it there cold and fast.
First sniff is all ripe stone fruit, peach and apricot, with a little candied orange and red berry hiding underneath. Then comes that warm bakery note, brioche and a hint of toast, the thing that makes proper Champagne smell expensive. On the palate it's full and creamy rather than lean, with honey, a touch of vanilla and a squeeze of lemon keeping it bright. The bubbles are soft and fine, not aggressive, and the finish lingers clean. Generous, but never sweet or heavy.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
It's made by the Cattier family in Chigny-les-Roses, a village in the Montagne de Reims part of Champagne, France. They've been growing grapes there for over a dozen generations, with Jean-Jacques Cattier and his son Alexandre behind this cuvée. The gold isn't paint, the bottle is coated in metal and finished with hand-applied French pewter labels, polished one at a time. Only about twenty bottles can be completed per person each hour, so no two are exactly alike. The nickname "Ace of Spades" comes from the pewter spade on the front.
