Bacardi Carta Blanca 750ml
★★★★★ 5.0 (1 review)Pour this over a glass of ice, crush in some mint and lime, and you've basically got a holiday in your hand. Bacardi Carta Blanca is the light, easy white rum that vanishes into a cocktail and lets everything else shine. It doesn't shout. It just makes the drink taste better, whether it's a daiquiri after a long day or a tall mint-and-soda on a slow Nairobi night. Grab a bottle, we'll have it at your door before the ice melts.
On its own it's gentle and a little floral, think orange blossom and a whisper of lime, with soft vanilla and almond underneath. The palate is smooth and lightly sweet, a touch of creamy coconut and stone fruit before it finishes clean and dry. That's the whole point: nothing harsh, nothing heavy, so it plays nice with mixers instead of fighting them.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Back in 1862, Don Facundo Bacardi cracked a trick nobody had: filtering rum through charcoal to strip out the rough stuff and leave it clear, clean and smooth. That move basically invented light rum, and Carta Blanca is the direct descendant. These days the bottle in your hand is made in Puerto Rico, where the rum is aged in lightly charred oak casks for up to a couple of years, then charcoal-filtered back to crystal clear. Old idea, still the benchmark.
