Boland 60/40 Rosé 75cl
★★★★★ 5.0 (1 review)Think pink, easy and just a touch sweet. This is the bottle you grab when you want something soft and fruity that doesn't ask you to think too hard. Pour it cold on a slow evening, on the balcony, or alongside a plate of something grilled, and let it do its thing. Crowd-pleaser energy. We'll have it at your door fast, whatever the hour.
Lovely salmon-pink in the glass. The nose is all ripe cherry and strawberry with a little rose-petal lift and a faint hint of spice underneath. On the palate it's juicy and soft, fresh red berries with a gentle sweetness that rounds everything off rather than coating your mouth. Light, fruity, no harsh edges. The kind of glass that goes down a little too easily.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Boland Cellar sits in Paarl, in South Africa's Cape winelands. It started back in 1941 when nine local farmers decided they'd get further pooling their grapes than going it alone, and it grew into one of the country's bigger producer cellars, drawing fruit from dozens of farms across the region. The 'Sixty 40' name nods to the cellar's blending range, where two grape varieties are brought together in roughly a 60/40 split. The aim is simple: approachable, fruity, no pretension.
