You want a red that's generous without being heavy, and this is it. Pour a glass and you get juicy dark fruit, a twist of black pepper and a smooth, savoury finish that just keeps you sipping. It's the kind of Shiraz you open on a Friday with friends and nobody overthinks. Bonus: it's named after the same family behind some of the world's most famous diamonds, so yeah, it punches above its weight.
First sniff is all dark berries, mulberry and a little blackberry, with a pretty floral lift of lavender hovering over the top. Then comes the signature Shiraz move: a crack of white pepper and warm spice that keeps things interesting. On the palate it's smooth and soft, properly ripe and juicy, dry rather than sweet, with gentle tannins and a savoury, almost herby finish that lingers. Easy to like, but there's real detail in there if you slow down.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Delaire Graff Estate, perched up on the Helshoogte Pass between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, with some of the best views in the Cape winelands. The estate was bought in 2003 by Laurence Graff, the British jeweller behind Graff diamonds, who turned it into a five-star wine-and-art destination. The Shiraz is hand-picked in the cool early morning to lock in the aromatics, fermented slow and cool, then rested in French oak so the fruit stays fresh and lively. Serious estate, unfussy bottle.
