Duchessa Cuvée Brut 75cl
You know that little lift a glass of cold fizz gives you the second the bubbles hit. That's this. Duchessa Lia Cuvée Brut is bright, snappy and properly easy to love, all green apple and citrus with a soft brioche hum underneath. No special occasion required. A Friday, a balcony, some music, done. And because we deliver fast at pretty much any hour, the only question is whether you've got it cold yet.
Pop it and you'll get green apple, lemon and lime, a little waft of white flowers, then that warm bakery note of fresh brioche from time spent on the lees. The bubbles are fine and steady, not aggressive. On the tongue it's light and zippy with a clean, mouth-watering tang, just a whisper of sweetness on the finish since this is an Extra Dry rather than a bone-dry Brut. Refreshing without being thin.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Duchessa Lia comes out of Piedmont in Italy's northwest, the famous hill country around Asti, Monferrato and the Langhe whose vineyards are a UNESCO World Heritage site. The home base is Santo Stefano Belbo, a small wine town tucked in those rolling hills. This one blends Durello, a sharp, high-acid Italian grape born for sparkling wine, with Pinot Noir for a bit of roundness. Classic Italian spumante, made to be poured young and fresh.
