This comes from Fairview in Paarl, South Africa, the farm run by Charles Back, who's a bit of a legend in the Cape. The name is a cheeky play on Côtes du Rhône, the famous French wine region, and there's a real story behind it: Fairview keeps a tower of goats on the farm, and the joke is they roamed off into the vineyard. The wine follows the Rhône playbook too, blending Grenache Blanc and Viognier with a splash of Roussanne and Marsanne, grapes grown on the granite slopes of Paarl Mountain and out in Darling. Cold-fermented in steel, kept fresh, no heavy oak getting in the way.
