Pour this when you want a Scotch that hugs rather than bites. Grant's Triple Wood is soft, sweet and easy on the palate: ripe pear, warm vanilla, a little toffee, then the quietest whisper of smoke right at the end. It's the bottle you keep on the shelf for any night, the one that's just as happy in a glass on its own as it is stretched over ice while the nyama choma's still on the grill. And at 1 litre, you're well stocked for the long ones.
Tasting note Β· by The Oaks Cellar

The nose is clean and inviting: ripe pear, orchard fruit and a swirl of vanilla. First sip is gentle and sweet, all toffee and soft vanilla with a malty, biscuity backbone and a faint floral lift. It's smooth, never harsh, the kind of whisky that doesn't make beginners wince. The finish is long and sweet, and just as it fades you catch a subtle hint of smoke. That's the three-cask trick at work: lots of sweetness up front, a tiny smoky signature to sign it off.

Where it's from

This is William Grant & Sons doing what they've done since 1886: a Scottish family firm, still independent five generations on, blending whisky out of Dufftown in Speyside. Triple Wood is their flagship blend and the name is the whole story. They marry whiskies matured in three different casks, Virgin Oak for a bit of spice, American Oak for that smooth vanilla, and refill Bourbon casks for brown-sugar sweetness. Three woods, one very mellow result.
