This comes from Gustave Lorentz, a family house in Bergheim, a pretty wine village in Alsace right up near the French-German border. They've been at it since 1836, and the place is now run seven generations deep by Georges Lorentz, with his three daughters next in line. Georges went all-in on organic farming back in 2009, and the estate's own-vineyard wines have been certified organic since the 2012 vintage. Alsace is Riesling country, sheltered and sunny, and the chalky, stony soils around Bergheim are exactly where that flinty, mineral edge comes from.
