Kumusha Cabernet Sauvignon - cinsault 75cl
Pour this and the first thing you get is juice. Ripe cherries, dark berries, a little lift that makes you go back for the next sip before you've finished the first. The tannins are soft, it's properly dry, and it doesn't ask you to think too hard. This is the bottle you open on a Friday when the grill's going and the plan is just to have a good time.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

On the nose it's dark roasted fruit with a pretty floral hint, almost like rose petals over the berries. First sip leans into ripe black cherry and dried plum, with a flash of pomegranate and strawberry keeping it bright. There's a savoury edge underneath, a touch of black olive, that stops it being all sweet fruit. The Cinsault brings the juicy, easy lift while the Cabernet lays down the backbone, so it's smooth and dry with gentle grip rather than a big chewy tannin wall.

Where it's from

Kumusha is the project of Tinashe Nyamudoka, who left Zimbabwe in 2008 and started out polishing cutlery in a Cape Town restaurant. He worked his way up to head sommelier at The Test Kitchen, once rated among the world's best restaurants, then started making his own wine. 'Kumusha' is Shona for home or roots, which is the whole point: wine that tastes of where it's from. It's made in South Africa's Western Cape, with the Cabernet resting in French oak and the Cinsault kept fresh in steel before they're blended.
